Fees: $40 for a 50 minute session. I also offer no-cost counseling to a limited number of clients.

I am committed to providing affordable counseling to diverse members of the community. I am systemically trained, which means I always consider the role of the family and the community in one's life, even if that person decides not to include their family in counseling. I believe that a large part of wellness is having healthy, meaningful relationships, not just with others, but with ourselves. Change happens when we are honest with ourselves about what is missing in our lives, and what we need from ourselves and others.

One of my specialities is working with LGBTAQQ populations. I am also poly and kink aware. I can help with coming out issues, identity struggles, and relationship dynamics.

My other specialities include:

  • Children or adolescents with a history of anger, violence, or acting out
  • Depression and mood disorders
  • Anxiety and stress
  • Body image issues and eating disorders
  • Internet and gaming addiction
  • Substance abuse

I have over 25 years of clinical experience and I believe when the mind is troubled, the body is impacted; likewise, when the body is troubled, the mind is impacted. My practice focuses on using cognitive behavior therapy to teach clients how to tap into their strengths to bring the mind and body back into harmony. Each of us embodies strengths and when we are stressed it can be hard to identify the strengths which live within us and around us.

Hey - I'm glad you've read this far! My name is Andrea and I love what I do. I've been working with clients in one way or another for more than twenty years ~ normal people, like you and me. Let's be honest, we all suffer with the tough parts of life, and when it's really hard, it's good to have someone to talk to.

I'm really committed to the idea that everyone should have access to counseling, and so I keep my fees low enough that almost anyone could afford to come. I may not be the right therapist for you, but let's talk, give it some thought, and find out. If I'm not, I'll be glad to refer you to one of my colleagues here at Wise Counsel & Comfort.

After wrapping up a Bachelor's degree in "Experimental Psychology" and a master's degree in social work years ago in California, I've had the privilege to work with folks in really difficult circumstances... poverty, addictions, and more. I offer an eclectic style and most often use CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) and DBT (dialectical behavior therapy).

I welcome LGBTQ folks, and would love to talk with you on the phone to see if it seems like a good fit. Please give me a call at 971-757-0666 or email me at AHanken_MSW@yahoo.com and we'll go from there.

    Take care of yourself!
