Life can sometimes be unpredictable and challenging and many people find themselves stuck in behavior patterns, distressing emotions, or unsatisfying relationships. You may find that you need some guidance to navigate these times in your life. A supportive therapeutic environment can help you find solutions to the challenges you face.
My approach is practical, straightforward, and collaborative with the goal of expanding self-awareness, goal setting and gaining insights into patterns that might be causing difficulty in your life and in your relationships. While emotional pain brings you into therapy, it is your strengths that are an integral part of the therapy process. Each therapy is unique in detail and in duration and I have found the most success comes from using different methods from a variety of theoretical approaches.
One of the best predictors of successful therapy is the relationship between client and therapist. I offer a free 30 minute consultation to allow us to get to know each other and to ensure that we are a good fit. Thereafter my fee is $40 per session.
Please call me at 503-314-9198 or email me at amber_cottrell@hotmail.com for an appointment. I look forward to working with you.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who focuses on personal exploration, which leads to deeper understanding and connection with self and others. By knowing better who you are through your self-discovery process, you will know both your vulnerabilities and your strengths, and be able to live your life with less distress and greater satisfaction.
I work with adults in individual and couples therapy. Particular issues that I focus on include:
* Personal growth
* Life transitions
* Relationship concerns
* Codependency
* Anxiety
* Depression
* Problem gambling and other addictions
I am a patient listener and perceptive at helping clients identify problem areas in their lives and helping clients discover solutions to their problems. I am able to connect with my clients at a deep and meaningful level. I am very empathetic and understanding of what my clients are experiencing and dealing with.
I offer a free 30-minute consultation, an opportunity for us to meet and determine if we are a good therapeutic fit. My fee is $90 per 50-minute session. I hold some times open for clients who are unable to pay my full fee. We can discuss fees during our first consultation session. I do not bill insurance directly. I accept payment at the time of service and provide a statement that you may then submit for insurance reimbursement.

Transitions create a shift in how we identify ourselves in the world from what is comfortable and familiar into the unknown. Our interpersonal relationships are impacted by the loss or addition of family members, changes in careers, religious communities, cultures, or living situations. We may find ourselves depressed, anxious, overwhelmed, lacking confidence, and in need of some kind of help.
I offer support and guidance for individuals, couples, and families who are going through a time of transition. I have a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute and a master’s degree in theology from Fuller Theological Seminary. I completed a leadership training program in Ghana, West Africa, and worked at an international high school in South Korea for two years. My educational, professional, and personal experiences have prepared me to meet the diverse needs of my clients by providing a therapeutic space for healing and transformation.
My primary goal as a therapist is to connect people with their authentic selves and their communities. I use a feminist theoretical orientation while working within a depth psychological framework. Feminist therapy takes into account the impact of society on psychological development. Ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and race are important in how we understand ourselves in relationship with the world around us.
Depth psychology is based on the work of Carl Jung and provides a therapeutic framework for the individuation process. Dreams and creativity are honored as a means for the unconscious to guide the healing process.
Please contact me at 503-972-7856 to schedule a free 30-minute consultation where we will have the opportunity to talk about my services and your needs. You may also email me with your questions at Faith@BetweenWorldsCounseling.com .
